Curatorial Rationale

I have always preferred to work in black and white or grayscale. For this exhibit, I wanted to include a variation of color within my work. I worked with different colors to create different feelings and different appearances. The contrast between black and white is the strongest contrast you can possibly get when using colors, but it is so appealing to add color contrast as well as black and white. Colors give off strong senses of emotion and I want these contrasts in colors to appeal to those looking through my work, to catch their attention and see the message behind my work.

The visual of every artwork is important, but so is the meaning and thought behind every artwork. In my art, I like to include things that matter to me and that I have an opinion on. My way of voicing my opinion is through my art. I want my art to let people feel the way I felt when I was creating the piece. Art has a strong way of influencing the emotions of people and that is exactly what I am trying to achieve with my artworks. I want to reach out to people and create connections through my work, and maybe let people see my viewpoint on certain things in the world.

In the works I have displayed, I have focused on nature, feminism, and mental well-being. These are all important aspects of my life that many people could possibly relate to. I wanted to include ideas of women and the power and ability that not just men have, but women have as well. The human body itself is a part of nature and it works in beautiful and interesting ways. Nature supplies us with everything that we need to live and we don’t always pay attention to that, but it is so important. Nature is something that helps my mental well-being as a whole, it is calming. In my opinion, mental health is something in our lives that is also very important. We all experience different things in life and it is important that we keep up on our mental health throughout these experiences. There is so much feeling and so much beauty in the world and I needed to share it through my art.
