Curatorial Rationale

As someone who works primarily through digital media, I strive to use the technology that we have in this age to create worlds that transcend the boundaries of what we know as reality.  This rose from my love of cartoons and video games.  Both have the power to transport their audience to worlds that go beyond everyday possibilities.  Because of this, I have chosen to feature works that portray narratives and images outside of our systematically confounded reality.  My overarching goal of presenting these pieces is to allow for an escape from the harsh world that we live in. Furthermore, these ‘universes’ are an excellent outlet for my outlandish imagination.  It also allows me to express my interests and intentions without explicitly confronting another individual with similar taste.

As I mentioned previously, I am a digital artist, with the exception of a couple of crafts here and there. I originally got into digital art through my love for cartoons. Since the age of 9, I have looked up to those who produced shows such as Gravity Falls and Phineas and Ferb.  That is also partially why I made the decision to feature pieces that mimic the styles of already existing series.  Until recently, I have mirrored the processes of other artists, and now I want to take my work into my own hands and create something that I can call my own.  I now use a Wacom Cintiq Pro 13 with a MacBook Air running macOS 15, and a professional paint program called Clip Studio Paint.  These materials (or more so resources) impact my work by allowing me to pull inspiration from similar artists, while still letting me make my pieces stand out.

We all have moments when we wish we were the main character of a game show or movie, and I intend to help those with that endeavor do exactly that. That is also why I chose the pieces that are featured in this exhibit.  Your response is part of the art.  The way my comic is displayed is meant to resemble scrolling on Webtoon.  I also have everything else placed to create an other-worldly, yet welcoming vibe. It is meant to imitate one’s desire for adventure, and bring them into an interesting world of fiction.  With that said, I hope everyone can be taken on their own journey while browsing my artworks.
